WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE KINESIOLOGY?

INTEGRATIVE KINESIOLOGY (I-K) is a synthesis of many related areas of research namely;
  • Applied Kinesiology,
  • Acupuncture,
  • Touch For Health,
  • Nutrition,
  • Chiropractic,
  • Brain Science,
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (N.L.P.),
  • Cranio-Sacral Therapy,
  • Special Education,
  • Sports Medicine,
  • Hyperton-X,
  • Naturopathy,
  • Wholistic Dentistry,
  • Psychology,
  • SuperLearning and
  • Stress Management.
I-K uses Muscle Response Testing as a tool to evaluate states of stress in a person’s life relative to the tasks that they perform as a before and after check on levels of integration. We use unique corrections to achieve great results!

The MIND-BODY is a BIO-COMPUTER. We can show people how to change old negative patterns in their Bio-Computer and teach them to “switch-on” their brains and enjoy whole body movement for enhanced learning. In the process most learning difficulties, such as Dyslexia, are dissolved and the person can have a new lease of life. Allergies, pain, coordination problems, procrastination and phobias can be eliminated with correct applications of the I-K principles.

The purpose of the Basic I-K Workshop is to teach YOU to take responsibility for yourself and your children in all areas of health and learning.

WHAT IS THE LEARNING SEMINAR?

The LEARNING SEMINAR is designed to give you the opportunity in life to break through the learning and communication blocks that prevent you from achieving everything in life that you would like. By setting goals, clearing past negative Bio-Computer programs (learned stresses) and incorporating Integration Activities into your life, you the participant will be able to achieve your life goals. It is based on research in many areas and the exciting thing about the I-K program is that it gets outstanding results, often in a very short time, making it one of the finest programs of its type in the world today.

To be successful in life one has to be able to learn in the most efficient way. The I-K techniques will show you how to “switch on your brain” enabling greater thinking capacity and creativity – results success!

SPECIFIC LEARNING DIFFICULTIES and DYSLEXIA

Dyslexics are simply experts at blocking energy. From the moment of birth they have been compensating for a lowered energy level with inefficient information processing.

Integrative Kinesiology teaches you to test and balance 4 indicator muscles and use them to evaluate the body's response to challenges to the state of integration we require to function at an optimal level.

Firstly, we need to understand that We learn through our 5 senses. SEEING, HEARING, TOUCH, SMELL and TASTE. We should all be born and develop in an integrated state. However, many forms of stress, trauma and injury can disorganise our levels of integration and learning as we grow. Childhood injuries, to vaccination to emotional issues such as sexual and emotional abuse can scar us for life. Integrative Kinesiology can release us from these chains and allow a new life force to grow and develop.

THE TRIAD OF HEALTH is EXPLORED

A balance of structural, chemical and mental factors is required to have health. When a person has ill health, learning difficulties and neurological disorganisation at least one of these factors is involved, but often 2 or all 3 must be analysed and treated.

An example of this would be a person suffering with a long-term intestinal irritation. There may also be low back pain, due to the dual nerve supply to the low back and the intestines. There may be emotional stress which would exacerbate these symptoms. Mal-absorption of nutrients may further deplete the body chemically. It is imperative in the treatment of this person that all 3 aspects are looked at in order to restore the triad of health and bring the person towards complete fitness.

STRUCTURAL

The Structural part includes the relationship between the muscles, bones, and nerves. However this also includes all the joints of the body, in addition to the spine. Since we stand on 2 feet, improper movement of the bones in the foot, and ankle, or the muscles and ligaments that support them, can cause symptoms in more distant joints. This is due to our ability to adapt to a problem subconsciously and overstressing other regions in compensation.

The bones of the skull need to move slightly, if they don’t they can put an abnormal stress on the brain through the very unstretchable dura. Also live bone is much more flexible than most realize. This flexing of these bones help circulate the Cerebral Spinal Fluid which bathes and provides nutrition for the brain and central nervous system. This is termed the Sacral-Occipital Mechanism and the Cranio-Sacral Mechanism due to the different researchers who developed their techniques. On average there are 206 bones in the body. In the spine with 26 moveable segments there are 6-8 joints for each segment. This translates to approximately 180 joints just in the spine.

CHEMICAL

The Chemical portion of the Triad of Health is the nutrition, diet, and the biochemistry of the patient. We have approximately 5000 chemical reactions occurring each second in each of the 70 odd trillion (billion-billion) cells of our body. Biochemically we are all unique with our needs dictated by genetics, our internal and external environments, and all overseen by the nervous system.

Even something as simple as nutrition is very complex. We talk about "Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats" in three words as if it was that simple.

There are hundreds of proteins and enzymes in our food chain however they are all made from 22 Essential Amino Acids which we need on a daily basis. So these proteins have to be digested down to these 22 Amino Acids and then the liver has to rebuild the proteins from the 22 basic building blocks. For the liver to be able to do this of course we have to digest the protein in the first place. In the stomach adequate Hydrochloric Acid is required to create the correct ph so the pepsin enzyme produced by the stomach wall can break down these long poly peptide chains and give free amino acids. If a person has allergies and intolerences this is the first place to start after adequate mastication of the food in the mouth.

Carbohydrates are starches and sugars and these all have to be broken down to simpler compounds and basically be used as "Glucose". These are found in grains, root vegetables and fruits in the main. Refining of our grains however only makes the "nutrition" worse for all of us. Minerals, vitamins and fibre are removed and this changes the Glycemic rating to a very poor source of carbohydrate. Sugars give us our energy as "blood sugar" but cannot build one cell of the muscles in your body!

Fats are very complex. Fats or lipids are a class of organic substances that are not soluble in water. Insimple terms fatty-acids are chains of carbon atoms with hydrogen atoms filling the available bonds. Most fat in our bodies and in the food we eat is in the form of triglycerides, that is, three fatty-acid chains attached to a glycerol molecule. Elevated triglycerides in the blood have been positively linked to proneness to heart disease, but these triglycerides do not come directly from dietary fats; they are made in the liver from any excess sugars that have not been used for energy. The source of these excess sugars is any food containing carbohydrates, particularly refined sugar and white flour.

These are some of the types we need in our diet.
  • Saturated (animal fat, cows and goats milk, coconut and palm oils)
  • Monounsaturated (olives, almonds, pecans, cashews, peanuts and avocados)
  • Polyunsaturated (vegetables oils eg. soy, corn and canola)
Polyunsaturated oils go rancid very quickly and should never be heated or used in cooking. In nature polyunsaturated fatty acids are usually found in the cis form, which means that both hydrogen atoms at the double bond are on the same side. When polyunsaturated fatty acids are heated they become trans-fatty acids which have been found to cause heart disease and some cancers due to their "free radical" nature. Canola Oil is the most dangerous of all these oils when heated, and it is used in all fried food oils such as used to cook "french fries"!

For more information may I suggest you visit these websites:- Researchers classify fatty foods not only according to their degree of saturation but also by their length.
  • Short-chain fatty acids have 4 to 6 carbon atoms - always saturated - found in cows and goats milk
  • Medium-chain fatty acids have 8 to 12 carbon atoms - found in butterfat and tropical oils
  • Long-chain fatty acids have from 14 to 18 carbon atoms and can be saturated, monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. This includes olive oil, Evening Primrose oil (GLA) as well as animal fats.
  • Very-long-chain fatty acids have 20 to 24 carbon atoms. Important oils in this category are Arachidonic Acid (20), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (20) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (22), with EPA and DHA found in fish oils.
Saturated fats are now being shown to be very important in maintaining good health and increased brain function for all people young and old.

These are some important facts about SATURATED FATS in the diet for our body chemistry:
  • Saturated fatty acids constitute 50% of the cell membranes, giving them necessary stiffness and integrity so they can function properly.
  • They play an important role in the health of our bones. For calcium to be effectively incorporated into the skeletal structure, at least 50% of the dietary fats should be saturated.
  • They protect the liver from alcohol and other toxins
  • They enhance the immune system
  • They are needed for the proper utilization of essential fatty acids and Omega 3 (EPA & DHA) are better retained in the tissues
Another very important substance in our body is Cholesterol. It has many health benefits:
  • Gives cell walls stiffness and stability
  • Precursor to vital corticosteroids, hormones that help us deal with stress and protect the body against heart disease and cancer as well as the sex hormones like androgem, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone
  • Precursor to Vitamin D, needed for healthy bones and nervous system
  • Used to produce bile salts for fat digestion and in the small intestine and cellular assimilation
  • Research shows cholesterol is an antioxidant which is part of the reason cholesterol goes up with age
  • Cholesterol is needed for proper function of serotonin receptors in the brain. Serotonin is the body's natural "feel-good" chemical in the brain.
  • Low cholesterol levels have been linked to aggressive and violent behaviour like ADHD, depression and suicidal tendencies
  • Mother's milk is especially rich in cholesterol and contains a special enzyme that helps the baby utilise this nutrient. Babies and children need cholesterol rich foods throughout their growing years to ensure proper development of the brain and nervous system. With low levels in childhood many now believe that this may account for the growing number of children with learning difficulties
  • Dietary cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining the health of the intestinal wall and things like leaky gut syndrome.
Cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease but rather a potent weapon against free radicals in the blood and a repair substance that helps heal arterial. cholesterol may be damaged by heat and oxygen. Damaged cholesterol is found in powdered eggs, in powdered milk (added to reduced-fat milks to give them body), UHT milks and in meats and fats that have been heated to high temperatures in frying and other high temperature processes.

We also know that chlorine causes increase in cholesterol levels in the body. Fluoride in our water is an enzyme poison and causes thyroid dysfunction in later years with hypothyroidism.

THE SIX STAGES OF NUTRITION

For the body to get nutrition to the cell there are SIX STAGES food has to go through, being:-
  • 1 - Diet
  • 2 - Digestion
  • 3 - Absorption
  • 4 - Circulation
  • 5 - Assimilation
  • 6 - Elimination
In order to get proper nutrition, the food must enter the mouth where it is chewed and identified by the brain through the senses of smell and taste. The brain then signals the glands to secrete the proper chemicals which mix with the food to start breaking it down. The food enters the stomach where more chemicals mix with food in the proper proportion at the proper time. Once it leaves the stomach, the food must be raised to a much higher pH so that it doesn’t burn the small intestines, mixed with other chemicals and gets selectively absorbed. Upon entering the large intestines, the remaining food with help of an array of friendly bacteria (such as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bulgaricus, Bifidus, Casei etc) breaks down some more and gets selectively absorbed. It then has to circulate in the blood to every cell in the body where assimilation must take place. Here again Essential Fatty Acids are once more the most important factor to be considered. After the selected nutrition is taken into the cell the mitochondria in the presence of Co-enzyme Q10 will produce Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP) to release the body's energy. The cell then has to eliminate the waste materials as well as produce, hormones, enzymes, balance blood sugar and blood chemistry and repair cell tissue. If all this goes well, at the proper time, with the proper proportions, and the proper food, the body should get adequate nutrition.

Notice nutrition is not an easy subject. Arriving at the proper solution is not possible from laboratory tests at this time in our lives. Integrative Kinesiology is an approach in which many of these questions can be answered in a safe, cost-effective manner.

MENTAL

The Mental aspect of health is crucial. You don’t have to want to be healthy to get more healthy. And you don’t have to believe something will work for it to work. But it helps.

There are many psychiatric problems that have a physiological cause such as depression due to inadequate blood sugar control, food sensitivities, or constant pain as in Fibromyalgia. These are chemical and structural causes of “mental” problems. They can be evaluated using Integrative Kinesiology.

The sides of the equilateral triangle interrelate with each other. A constant structural strain will affect one’s emotions. The emotions can then affect the digestive system that will affect the chemistry in terms of nutritional deficiencies. This can then lead to muscle weakness that will further aggravate the structural strain. A unified and cohesive approach is important and necessary. Even simple stressors such as student/teacher conflict, bullying etc can impair the future learning and self-esteem of the student.

Unfortunately, today’s health care has promoted excessive specialization. This has provided for good results in highly specific conditions, but not necessarily in overall health in the general population. Also, problems exist when different specialties are unaware of the other sides of the triangle; whose is inadvertently treating the other sides and not getting at the cause. An example of this is the use of painkillers and muscle relaxants for structural problems with a known cause. If you fix the cause, you will fix the problem.

There are many ways at looking at health. In Integrative Kinesiology we like to consider health as a Triad. The three legs of the triangle are structural, chemical and mental. If the sides are all equal than the person will have optimal health, a shortening or lengthening of any side will be less than optimum. Note that nowhere in this discussion is pain or lack of it part of health. Because it isn’t. Pain is a natural response to noxious stimuli. It is normal for someone to have pain after they hit their hand with a hammer, but they are no less healthy. Health is the optimal function that should have minimal noxious stimuli.

Trevor Muscle Testing his Client for Reading Problems

MUSCLE RESPONSE TESTING - THE MISSING KEY TO TOTAL MIND-BRAIN-BODY INTEGRATION

TESTING

EYES
We set a goal and then challenge the EYE movements ie L - R - Up - Down, tracking, looking at X & II, eye rotations, depth of field etc. and test the indicator muscle after each movement. Looking at hand / eye coordination is also important. We have the person look at each letter of the alphabet and number and test.

EARS
For the EAR tests we cover the individual ear - test indicator muscle - and have the person then turn their head to left and right, testing each one. We test the sounds of each letter of the alphabet and each number.

ARMS / LEGS FOR MOVEMENT
Next we ask the person to march in place and observe if they move in a uni-lateral or homolateral crawl fashion or in a bi-lateral march or crosscrawl pattern. We should all march in a crossover pattern with our left arm / right leg raised, changing to right arm / left leg being raised.

GOAL REPATTERNING

This is a marching exercise which involves the eyes being moved into 6 different directions as the person moves from a unilateral to a bilateral movement. Retesting after the process demonstrates that a new state of integration has been achieved.

FOLLOW UP EXERCISES or INTEGRATION ACTIVITIES

We then have the person learn a few activities which assist and remind the brain that new neural pathways have been established in the brain. These activities can then be used when a tuneup is needed.
