THE HISTORY OF N.O.T. with Dr Carl Ferreri DC (Brooklyn, New York)

Dr Carl Ferreri DC USA - Developer N.O.T.

On New Years eve, 24th December 2002 Dr Ferreri DC suffered a stroke. On 10th January 2003 he had a triple bypass operation. He had been recovering until recently. Here is a copy of an email I just received from his daughter Lisa in Brooklyn (28th March 2003):

"Unfortunately my dad has been back in the hospital for the last 20 days.

He was brought in with congestive heart failure and a variety of related difficulties including many kidney related issues. The first 10 days were very difficult for him. He is now in re-hab and doing much better. My dad has truly had a very tough and scary time. Please be in touch with him, he would love to hear from his colleagues".

Dr Carl A. Ferreri DC, from Brooklyn New York, had been a Chiropractor for over 50 years, having preceded his Chiropractic training with a number of years at University studying Law. The Atlantic States Chiropractic Institute awarded him a PhC, Philosopher of Chiropractic, where he also served as an Instructor after gaining his Doctor of Chiropractic. He taught both undergraduate and post graduate Technique and Nutrition to Chiropractors and earned a PhD. degree in 1958. He had a degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

His diverse background included Chiropractic Technique, Sacro Occipital and Cranial Technique, Classical Acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology, Activator Technique, Bio Magnetic research and other Reflex programmes.

In his early twenties he had been a New York Power Lifting Champion and had hurt his back. After a Chiropractor fixed his back, he quit Law and turned to the Art and Science of Chiropractic, against the wishes of his father. His father was a New York Supreme Court Judge.

Dr Ferreri studied Applied Kinesiology and saw in it an opportunity to explore the wonders of the human body in all its intricacies.

He developed the Neural Organisation Technique in 1979. He has been presenting seminars and post graduate seminars since 1981 throughout the United States, England, Europe, Australia and South America. He is the author of several books, including "Breakthrough for Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities", "Philosophical and Technique Manuals on Basic Neural Organization Technique Protocols", "Scoliosis", "Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities", "Endocrine, Circulatory and Cardiac Stress" problems and "Extremity Techniques".

WHAT IS N.O.T.?

One could say N.O.T. or Neural Organization Therapy is the program to organize your life after any trauma, be it chemical, physical or emotional.

The body is organised functionally into four primal survival systems which are generally known as the feeding, fight/flight, reproduction and immune systems. All physiological, neurological, vegetative and cognitive activities must function within or through these survival systems in an organised and integrated manner. In order for the body to survive, these systems must be organised within themselves first and then must be integrated and synchronised with each other. This organisation is manifest through the integrated function of the central nervous system. Various kinds of stress including physical, emotional, chemical, or environmental trauma can, and many times do, interfere with the harmonious and organised function of these reflex systems and ultimately the central nervous system itself.

Throughout his professional career, Dr Ferreri studied many associated modalities, includes Acupuncture, N.L.P. (Neuro- Linguistic Programming), Nutrition, and attended over 200 Advanced Chiropractic Seminars in his quest for knowledge on the workings of the body.

In 1979, Dr Carl Ferreri DC recognized the importance of the survival systems of FEEDING-FIGHT/FLIGHT-REPRODUCTION and the LIMBIC/IMMUNE systems of the human body.

He realized that no matter what the circumstances, how big or how small, it must always involve one or more of these survival systems. These innate systems are in place to insure our ability to respond to certain stimuli, to sustain, protect, repair and / or create new life: ie., survival of the individual and survival of the species. He recognized that the body, and its multitude of functions, worked precisely like a computer (or the other way around), with very specific programs for every event in our lives. Some programs were built into our neurology, other programs were developed or learned, as the need arose, or combined as necessary for survival. Although there are only four basic survival systems, there is a very complex array of interactions, which are found to organize our bodily functions.

Neural Organization Therapy, or N.O.T., is one of the most complete and one of the most powerful treatment programs in Holistic Medicine in the world today. All the concepts which are drawn on and taught in N.O.T are based in knowledge acquired from Applied Kinesiology (Dr George Goodheart DC, Dr David Walther DC., ICAK), Touch For Health (Dr John Thie DC), Sacro Occipital Technique (S.O.T - Dr De Jarnette DC), Cranio-Sacral Therapy, (Dr John Upledger DO), Chiropractic (Dr D Palmer DC), Dr Frank Chapman DO (Neuro Lymphatic Reflexes), Dr Terence Bennett DC (Bennett’s Reflexes or Neuro Vasculars), Acupuncture, Nutrition, Anatomy & Physiology, and observations made by Dr Ferreri over 45 years as a research Chiropractor. He considered that we were all designed to live and function in the "jungle" and as such had to survive against all odds. By taking the personal history of a person, observing the phenomena of the various conditions and taking the N.O.T protocols as a starting point, often we find dramatic changes will occur for the person presenting for treatment.

Dr Ferreri recognized that there was neurological priority in the way the body worked. He began to explore this concept very deeply and developed the programs that are the blueprint of the body’s neurology. This takes into account all the four survival systems and their sub-programs. Because of limitation of space in the body and the conservation of energy factors, the body uses many of the same systems or parts of them over and over, often with different starting points, "in relation to" different functions. Ideally the body works in an organized manner. If the body can understand what you want to know and / or why you are doing something to it, it can and will respond specifically under those circumstances and allow changes to the stored neurological programs for the system you are working on. This will usually last for a long time, if all factors are attended to. When an N.O.T Practitioner works on a person, they will start at the beginning and continue in a specific order until all corrections are made.

Neural Organisation Therapy (N.O.T.), a non-invasive, kinesiologically-based treatment protocol, is designed to recognise any of these disorganisations that may be found within the neural programmes of these primal survival systems if damaged or otherwise compromised. The treatment protocols are then designed to specifically organise or reorganise a disorganised central nervous system. A disruption of the natural balance within these previously synchronised processes will cause a change in the electromagnetic field in various parts of the body. This EM change can then be measured, analysed and treated. Homeostasis is then restored to the body by activating combinations of the known reflex systems, acupuncture meridians, muscle spindles, magnetic energy, cranial and spinal bone balances and nutrition which control these systems. The key to the success of this treatment protocol is that it recognises the need for the specific organisation and integration of all systems within the body.

The body is a totally integrated biological and energetic entity where everything affects everything else in one way or another and as the old song goes, the “head bone” is really connected to the “foot bone”. It is impossible to treat one part of the body without affecting or causing stress or change somewhere else in the body.

Neural Organization Therapy is unique in other ways not found in other treatment protocols. The NOT examination and treatment protocols take into account the body’s awareness of itself and the circumstances of life as it is lived. Eyes open and closed, light and dark and half-light conditions (dawn, dusk, etc) and various eye directions are a normal part of the usual examination and treatment procedures. Also considered are changing body positions (getting up from sitting or lying), cold, heat, walking, jumping, running, sitting in the car, etc. which very often influence the memory of the circumstances surrounding the condition. These circumstances, when included in the treatment protocol, are almost always key to successful treatment and usually make for rapid and successful conclusions to any condition.

The list of conditions treated with this method almost reads like a pathology book because it is so diverse. This is because the treatment protocols are aimed at the neurological, physiological and energetic deficits which either cause or allow the condition or deficit to exist, and not necessarily at the condition itself. It doesn’t matter what you have or what you call it but rather why you have it. We don’t treat the disease but we do treat the causes.

The Interconnectedness of the Body

Nothing happens in or to the body without a total body awareness of the incident. This awareness is communicated through an intact nervous system so that the body can accommodate the particular incident and can act appropriately to survive. As these systems are involved in our basic survival, they must also of necessity be reflex in nature, that is, automatic, needing no cognitive activity or training to function. Trauma in all of its possibilities can and does disrupt the neural programmes within these reflex systems which then send inappropriate signals to the body.

There is an axiom in neurology which is known as the ‘all or none’ rule. If there is sufficient stimulation then that neurological program must fully activate and if not, it will not. Our research has identified the specific areas in or on the body which will activate the neural circuits within these programmes. They in turn control all possibilities including posture, gait, balance, movement, glandular, immune, digestive and cognitive functions.

Since we are dealing with neural integration and integrity, the support structures of the body, the skeleton and particularly the cranial bones and their function, must also be taken into consideration. The anatomical position of the bones of the skeleton is obviously important. The physiological function and reciprocal respiratory motion of the cranial system is essential to proper neurological function and to life itself. The function of the brain can be monitored through instrumentation by measuring the electromagnetic discharges of the brain itself.

The lines of force of the electromagnetic fields which influence all body function, including the brain, are laid down in the connective tissues, particularly in the bones, and in the case of the brain in the cranial bones. Any disturbance of this delicate balance can produce disastrous results in relation to brain and neurological function. We see evidence of this every day when we see the results of cranial trauma.

The method of examination for all of the above is based on kinesiological concepts in which a strong muscle indicator [a muscle which can resist reasonable force on command] is used. This method accesses the body’s own knowledge of itself. If there is a functional or structural deficit anywhere in the body, there will be a change in the electromagnetic energy in that part or function. When that part or reflex area is touched by either the examiner or the patient there is a distraction to the overall energy field as the body tries to compensate for the change. This change is registered in the test muscle and the muscle momentarily weakens on stress.

A frequent question asked by both patients and doctors is “how long does it last?” If the corrections are made properly and completely they usually last until the patient re-injures themselves, which may be many years later. One thing the patients appreciate is that “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it, leave it alone” philosophy of NOT. This brings in many new patients.

These are some of the principles of NOT. This is how the body works, not just sometimes but all the time. The philosophy of NOT is that it is NOT impossible. Due to the success of the various treatment protocols patients come from all over the world and almost every State in the US. They contact our office almost daily seeking a practitioner of N.O.T. close to home or they will journey to our Brooklyn office. They come with chronic conditions of almost every description as patient tells patient and/or parent tells parent.

PHILOSOPHY OF N.O.T.

As mentioned earlier, the philosophy and guiding principle of N.O.T., on the scientific level, is that in order to understand how our basic physiological functions work today, we must look to our primitive origins. We were after all, created to exist and survive in a hostile environment. Therefore, essentially everything we need for survival, with the exception of food, air and water, must be found within the body itself. It is a self-healing, self-regulating, self-perpetuating (replacing its own tissues) mechanism. These mechanisms, by their very nature, must be inborn or innate, integrated and fully automatic from the very beginning of life. Physical or emotional trauma and poor diet can disturb these automatic functions. N.O.T has been found to be a key to understanding many of these relationships. This may be a new paradigm for you.

What is a paradigm? "It is a way of looking at the world; changing your paradigm can open new avenues of opportunity."

A paradigm can be thought of as the current model of reality that people use to shape their possibilities, opinions, and choices. Most so called health care today actually focuses on sickness and pain, not wellness. It is as if health was just the absence of disease. The usual treatment is by drugs (chemical), surgery (structural), and radiation (kill the bad cells). This does not focus on the CAUSE of the problem, only the SYMPTOMS. N.O.T attempts to treat the cause, the whole person, and work with what the body tells us is out of balance. If you have PAIN, the REASON WHY you have pain is far more important than the fact that you do have pain. Pain is our body’s way of telling us something is wrong!

The new paradigm also considers that we are whole beings or persons, NOT just a leg or arm or big toe which should be cut off. Wellness can only occur when we have an harmoniously functioning nervous system, and prevention rather than cure is the approach a person chooses. N.O.T focuses on correcting problems BEFORE they manifest as a health problem.

Survival Systems of the Body:

The concept of survival systems, FEEDING, FIGHT/FLIGHT, REPRODUCTION and the LIMBIC system (combination of immune, repair, growth, cellular reproduction systems) is the basis to what N.O.T is all about. We do not treat a person’s symptoms, we treat a person and check out these systems which usually clears most symptoms. In a person’s life, everything that happens to us that causes stress, injury or some dysfunction or neural deficit, happens to us at some time during our life when it is either light or dark, whether with natural or artificial light. Also, we will have our eyes opened or we will have them closed. It therefore makes a lot of sense to have the person you are testing / treating as a client, to open and close their eyes in the light and open and close their eyes in the dark. By doing this, we can find each deficit at causal time and reprogram the person’s nervous system accordingly. This may have to be done for most tests and corrections and it is important if we find it in the dark, eyes closed eg., that the person keeps the eyes closed while the corrections are being done.

Sometimes, dawn and dusk may be necessary to find the deficit. We also may have to find time of day and / or night in some protocols such as; bed wetting, pain at night, hot, cold, weather, waking up, acts such as standing, sitting, lying, standing up from being seated, bending over etc., We say the words such as "standing", "it’s light", "sitting" etc. and test the Indicator Muscle. All these factors will assist in achieving better results with clients. N.O.T reorganizes your nervous system so that you can function in the way you were designed to.

If we can’t find the problem, we can’t fix it. If we can find the deficit, we can fix it!

In N.O.T we consider that as 80% of the nervous system is found above the atlas or C1, the top bone in the spine, and the brain is encased in the cranium, then it is possible that the function of the cranial bones and membranes surrounding the brain should be given a high priority. As the cranial bones are functional and can move, they can also be damaged from blows to the head or injury. If they can be jammed, then we can un-jam them and recreate their motion. We also consider that the body in its totality is a self healing creation and as such it can heal itself if we assist by removing those factors which are causing interference or deficit in the nervous system’s functioning. Any disruption of this harmonious relationship between all parts of the body will eventually manifest as a dis-ease. However, before a disease manifests, there will be a predisposition to that disease and this will be found in these four systems and can be interrupted BEFORE the DIS-EASE manifests!

There must be a free flow of energy to all parts of the brain and body for optimal functioning and wellness!

KINESIOLOGY AS A TOOL

N.O.T. is based in the art and science of Applied Kinesiology and using an intact Indicator Muscle we can use it as a very accurate diagnostic tool for neurological biofeedback.

This is both informational (meaning we are getting information from the body) and educational (meaning we are able to use it to anchor or lock in changes and check to see that a change has taken place). This allows us to have a continual monitor of our progress in the treatment procedure. We can say that N.O.T is organized Applied Kinesiology. We believe that there is perfect ORDER in the Universe, and that there is a need for perfect ORDER in the human body, if it is to function properly. If that order is disrupted in any way, the survival of the whole body is imperiled in some way. So this suggests that in our protocols we must start somewhere and finish somewhere, or close the circuit. As the body functions as an integrated whole and not just a sum of different parts working together, there is an interdependent relationship between all parts. No part can function as an independent part without the rest of the body being affected. So we must treat the whole of the body. In fact, we usually do not hurt where we hurt. Often the pain or dysfunction is a referred sensation from another part of the body. For example, a person may have a pain behind the eyes. It could be coming from the neck, it could also be coming from the little jaw muscle that runs from the Mandible to the Sphenoid bone. We must find the cause, and then the symptom will look after itself. Our health problems are to be found somewhere in our nervous system.

An intact indicator muscle eg. Hamstring, Gluteus Medius, Pectoralis Major Clavicular, Anterior Deltoid is of paramount importance in N.O.T. If we did not have the muscle response testing tool we would not have discovered much more about the body than everyone already knew about 30 years ago.

We are grateful to Dr George Goodheart DC, Dr John Thie DC, Dr Sheldon Deal DC, Dr David Walther DC and many other Chiropractors for researching the original muscle testing procedures of Physical Therapists Kendall, Kendall and Wadsworth, who wrote about muscle testing in the late 1930’s. Dr Goodheart DC was able to take this information and add the Neuro Vasculars from Dr Terence Bennett DC and the Neuro Lymphatic Reflexes found by Dr Frank Chapman DC in the early 1930’s. First we had Touch For Health, developed in the early 1970’s by Dr John Thie DC, who added the Acupuncture dimension to Applied Kinesiology, and now there are over 50 different Kinesiology courses taught around the world. And N.O.T is one of the most complete courses when it comes to clinical practise.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY FOR N.O.T.

It is not necessary to know everything about the human body to be able to use N.O.T safely and effectively. However, like any good carpenter or plumber you do have to know how to use a saw and what type of timber to use or what shape shovel is best for digging different holes and the different types of soil necessary to put in drainage. Same in N.O.T! We are dealing with a person’s body - skin, muscles, bones, organs etc. We are also accessing a person’s personal space and respect for one’s sexuality, sensitivity, beliefs and past personal emotional and physical experiences is of paramount importance.

Problems treated by N.O.T.

Conditions seen by practitioners of the Neural Organisation Therapy protocols include the usual spinal and pelvic problems such as sacro iliac and/or sacro lumbar (low back pains), cervical (neck) and thoracic (trunk) spinal problems, vertebral disc, sciatica (pain in the nerve in the leg), idiopathic scoliosis and other similar structural conditions. These conditions are treated by other systems as well. Neural Organisation Therapy is better known for some of its specialty treatment protocols such as the closed head injury syndromes.

The original N.O.T. protocols were first designed to deal with the neurological, physiological and cognitive deficits associated with cranial injury complexes. The term ‘complex’ is used because all of these injuries manifest in multiple deficits. These injury complexes include whiplash, concussion, birth trauma and related problems and headaches (specified and unspecified including migraines) and multiple Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ – part of the defence system in the body) deficits. However as research has continued we now deal with every survival system in the body and as a result N.O.T. is now a complete modality practised by chiropractors and kinesiologists around the world.

Head and Cranial Injuries

Many people suffer a hit to the head, concussion, whiplash or maybe more serious injury with broken bones and brain damage. Often it heals but the person has symptoms that last a lifetime. Using kinesiology and the N.O.T. protocols it is now possible to reorganize the nervous system circuits to eliminate this deficit. We now know that most bi-polar and depressed people have sustained a head injury and most probably a whiplash, even if only a mild one. We can evaluate both of these conditions and correct the Cerebellar Reflex in the brain and start the healing process in a short period of time.

Immune Disorders

Our immune system is responsible for the overall health of our bodies. If it dysfunctions or overloads we suffer from allergies and also autoimmune diseases may develop. Cancer is a result of our immune system not working correctly and we can improve its functioning. All sorts of allergies including environmental and food allergies, bronchitis and asthma and auto-immune conditions can result from the digestive disturbances because of mal digestion or mal absorption. This scenario demonstrates not only the interrelation of one system to the other but also why these traumas are not just a stiff neck which will go away in time.

T.M.J. - Temporo Mandibular Dysfunction

The jaw is often overlooked as a major source of health problems. The T.M.J. is neurologically involved in the digestion process and ramifications of these traumatic deficits can manifest in digestive disorders, constipation, hiatal hernia, ilio caecal and other digestive valve problems and swallowing difficulties. Many different protocols ranging from digestion, defensive through to head injuries, and even bedwetting may be caused from a dysfunctioning jaw.

Dyslexia and Scoliosis

Dyslexia and all learning disabilities has been recognised by the various national and local organisations involved to be a condition of neural disorganisation. N.O.T. was uniquely able to address these disorganisations and a successful treatment protocol was then created.

A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder) and A.D.H.D. (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) are more complicated forms requiring more extensive treatment protocols. No drugs are ever used in relation to these conditions.

One of the first endeavours was to correct his son Vince’s Dyslexia, who at that time was at University. Soon after that he read in the December 1985 issue of SPINE magazine, an Orthopaedic Surgery magazine, that Scoliotics (people with a Scoliosis or an S-curvature of the spine) had a high percentage of Dyslexia also present. This intrigued Dr Ferreri as he considered that if he could correct Dyslexia, then Scoliosis may also be able to be helped. And so began the N.O.T. journey which has taken him around the world. Until recently Dr Ferreri ran a busy practice in Brooklyn, as well as travelling around the world teaching and treating all who are willing to attend and learn from his experiences.

Endocrine Disorders

Our hormones dictate our female and our male characteristics and throughout our life we are controlled by our hormones. This not only affects our sexual functioning but also our very existence as men and women. In N.O.T. we can balance this activity in relation to liver and thyroid function for a better quality of life. All our hormones are reactions to each other and we can balance the body for these imbalances.

Cardiac Back Stress

As a result of hormonal imbalances we often end up with stiff low backs and lumbar involvements. Using the N.O.T. protocols we are able to bring harmony to the abdominal versus the sacrospinalis muscles and allow for greater flexibility.

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries among the young are becoming almost epidemic. A series of studies has concluded that head-to-head collisions in sports can produce brain injuries that may affect high school and college athletes years after they’ve left the court or playing field. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, about 62,000 US students and athletes suffer ‘mild’ head injuries annually. Some of these injuries affect learning, memory, concentration and decision making.

Athletes with learning disorders appear to suffer more significant long-term consequences from head injuries sustained in sports. This in itself is a very serious situation because there is very little adequate treatment available to counter the effects of these head traumas. For the most part, no treatment is even offered because it is generally felt that the condition will resolve itself in time. This is almost never the case, but the case histories seldom span more than three months when any lesion caused by the trauma heals. To compound the problem even further, since the advent of seat belts and air bags there are fewer fatal automobile accidents, but many more head-injured people who now survive the otherwise fatal accident. The injured athlete and the accident survivor both suffer post-trauma injury syndromes which include chronic head, neck, spine and back pains, scoliosis and neurological dysfunction of one kind or another in various parts of the body or in the use of that part. Cognitive deficits are also common.

Extremities.

We all injure our joints in the knee, elbow, wrists and ankles. N.O.T. has many techniques to prevent injury as well as treating them after the fact.

Summary

Early in its development, the organisational effect of Neural Organisation Technique on the nervous system was recognised to successfully influence the treatment for both dyslexia/ learning disabilities and scoliosis. A specific deficit in the vestibular ocular reflex system was found to be involved in both conditions. Many chiropractors and then kinesiologists became interested in learning how to address these and other conditions which have resisted the best efforts of orthodox treatment.

As new information is discovered as to how the body really works, Neural Organisation Technique protocols are in constant development. The primal survival systems are also constantly re-examined to try to find more of the subtleties within their functions and in their relation to each other.

Neural Organization Therapy TRAINING IN AUSTRALIA.

Dr Ferreri Dc first came to Australia to teach N.O.T. in September 1989.

Trevor Savage ND, a Kinesiologist and Naturopath from Brisbane Australia, had become aware of Dr Ferreri’s book called "Breakthrough For Dyslexia and Learning Difficulties" at a Touch For Health World Conference at the University of San Diego, California in 1985. Trevor was able to attend Dr Ferreri's first Seminar in Sydney that year and he then continued to study with him over the following years, including travelling to Brooklyn in 1992 to study Advanced N.O.T While he was there, Trevor sponsored Dr Ferreri into I-ASK, The International Association of Specialised Kinesiologists, in the USA, which has allowed thousands of Kinesiologists in many countries around the world, including Brazil, Europe and the U.K, to become aware of N.O.T, and to attend training workshops.

Trevor was authorised to become the first N.O.T. Instructor (apart from Carl) in the world. During 1994 and 95, Trevor took on the huge task of rewriting the current N.O.T Manuals for the world of Non-Chiropractic Kinesiologists. 300 hours later the Manual was completed, with it now being used in all countries around the world where N.O.T. is taught. He was also instrumental in assisting Carl to establish the N.O.T. International Organization and he was appointed the Vice President of N.O.T International (Australia) by Dr Ferreri in February 1997, at his Gold Coast Australian Seminar.

To facilitate the training of students in Australia, there are now a two Certified Neural Organization Therapy Instructors. Trevor Savage ND from Brisbane and Jennifer Kusmenko from Melbourne.

Trevor Savage ND has further developed the original Ferrari N.O.T. to include a large knowledge of information from brain chemistry, wholistic dentistry, nutrition and sports medicine training in his new Neural Organization Therapy Seminars. Trevor and Jennifer teach in Australia, New Zealand and Dubai. They will also be teaching in the future in Europe and USA. Should you consider sponsoring a Seminar in your country please contact us for more information.

Overview of Module 1 N.O.T. Workshop

Dear Fellow Kinesiologist - February 2005

During the last 16 years, since first studying N.O.T. with Dr Carl Ferreri DC in September 1989 in Sydney, I have been learning and using Neural Organization Technique [N.O.T.] in my Kinesiology practise at Eatons Hill in Brisbane, with tremendous success. In 1993, after travelling to New York to study with Carl, a Chiropractor from Brooklyn and the developer of N.O.T., he appointed me the first N.O.T. Instructor in the world and also Australia.

In 1995, I wrote the Basic and Advanced N.O.T. Manuals for non-Chiropractic Kinesiologists and these manuals are now being used around the world. Six years ago I decided to write a new Workshop and a new manual called "Foundation For N.O.T." (for Module 1 classes) to make this work more available and easier to learn. This is a 24 hour - 3 DAY workshop, designed to cover the background, learning process, qualification protocols, terminology and philosophy of N.O.T. as well as all the anatomy and physiology, kinesiology and the various unique protocols of the N.O.T. program. A Melbourne Kinesiologist, Jennifer Kusmenko (www.kinesiology.nu/jenniferkusmenko), is now qualified to teach this fascinating 3 day Module 1 NOT Workshop in Australia since January 2005.

This book also includes copies of the overheads used in the actual Module 2 and Module 3 Classes. Many students have found that the "Foundation" class enabled them to grasp a greater amount of the workshop material the first time through.

Three complete classes of Module 2 and Module 3 must be attended before a Diploma of Proficiency can be applied for by the student. The N.O.T. Workshop is unique with no other program like it in the world!

MODULE 1 N.O.T. Workshop - (previously FOUNDATION FOR N.O.T) - (3 days - 24 hrs)

The 24 hour (3 day) "Module 1" Workshop is taught to assist the student to learn the philosophy and terminology of all the N.O.T Workshop material, as well as reviewing the relevant Anatomy and Physiology and the Kinesiology information required as a prerequisite. This workshop can be attended after a person has 250 hours of General Kinesiology training as well as 40 hours of Anatomy and Physiology, or Touch For Health 1, 2 & 3 plus Basic Anatomy and Physiology. Only Basic Module 2 N.O.T. procedures are practised. This is now a pre-requisite for everyone attending the N.O.T Basic Workshop - Module 2.

Testimonials re MODULE 1 N.O.T. - (FOUNDATION FOR N.O.T.)

"I found the Foundation For N.O.T. course to be absolutely inspirational and it has got me practising more of the N.O.T technique with my clients. After my first Basic N.O.T course I was a bit overwhelmed by all the knowledge and had found it very difficult to assimilate. The Foundation N.O.T course has not only cemented some of the principles for me in the Basic N.O.T but has given me both enthusiasm and a measure of confidence which I never would have thought possible, thank you so much Trevor."

Debbie Pannowitz, Sydney NSW Nov 2003

“The N.O.T. Foundation was an absolute god-send when I came across it in June 2003. The information I was longing to find was all there in a bound manual I could hardly believe it. It provided me with such knowledge which explained in depth why I was doing what I was doing. N.O.T. Foundation pulled together the Basic and Advanced N.O.T., which I did in 2001, in a cohesive way. It also gave me confidence and further faith in the use of N.O.T. Whilst this was not a pre-requisite to the Basic and Advanced N.O.T. its importance and value should not be underestimated. I would highly recommend it. I would go so far as to say that without the Foundation you cannot be a proficient N.O.T practitioner.”
Jennifer Kusmenko, Melbourne Nov 2003

It will enable you to grasp this great program with a lot less kinesiology training than if you were to just attend the Module 1 and Module 2 Workshops. This workshop is invaluable to all including the qualified Chiropractor who has studied a large amount of Applied Kinesiology. If you wish to attend the upcoming Module 2 and Module 3 N.O.T. Workshops this is a must-do program. Don't miss it EVEN if you have attended a Module 2 and Module 3 N.O.T. classes already.

I invite you to attend this fantastic workshop now and then do the Module 2 and Module 3 practical training. You can add this knowledge to your clinical menu when treating people with head injuries / whiplash, headaches, dyslexia, scoliosis, allergies, emotional stress, blood pressure and circulatory problems, hormone imbalances in both men and women, Down Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, asthma, immune disorders, brain damage, stroke victims, as well as the many difficult unnamed dis-eases you will be confronted with in a kinesiology practise. Learn now and change people's lives every day, on purpose. I do and I value the synthesis of mind / body integration protocols more than any other program I have ever learned. See you soon in a workshop!

The Module 2 N.O.T. Workshop is taught over 50 hours and
Module 3 N.O.T. workshop over 60 hrs as follows.
An official Certificate of Competency is supplied at the end of both Module 2 and Module 3 Workshops if the student successfully completes the class.

    MODULE 1 & MODULE 2 N.O.T. Workshops

    Module 2 N.O.T. - 6 days - 50 hours

Each student will receive a Certificate of Competency for each workshop attendance after successful examination.

You will learn to deal with the innate Survival Reflex Systems of the body. This includes:
    • Day 1: Basic Neurological Switching, the Cloacal Labyrinthine and Ocular Centring / Righting Systems and Neck Righting Reflexes. This involves Left/Right brain integration and the gait.
    • Day 2: Exploring the importance of Cranial Injury Complex/Head Injuries/Whiplash as it relates to depression, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Antisocial behaviour, learning problems, bi-polar, Multiple Sclerosis, Scoliosis.
    • Day 3: The Limbic/Immune System especially for allergies and all immune disorders. Immune impairment is involved in many serious health disorders including cancer.
Nutrition with the different food groups - protein, fats, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients (carotenoids, flavonoids, cruciferous compounds
The Six Stages of Nutrition is taught as it is important to understand the complete process of the Digestive process in the body. We are what we eat!
    • Day 4: Most practitioners in the health field know little or nothing about the T.M.J. As it is involved with 70-80% of your nervous system in the brain it therefore show HOW IMPORTANT it really is! Survival Systems of the TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint) are addressed starting with:-
        the Universal TMJ Complex,
        the Digestive TMJ,
        the Dural Defence TMJ,
        Hiatal Hernia,
        Valves (Ilio-Caecal, Cardiac, Pyloric, Houston),
        and Pelvic Injury.
    • Day 5: Category II (Pelvis of the Skull - Structural Jaw). Low back trouble and sciatica are very real, everpresent health problems. These are explained and corrections are taught to give you the tools to efficiently treat almost everyone who presents in your clinic.
    • Day 6: Category III (Lumbar/Disc) are taught. When this shows up the problem is becoming very serious. These techniques may be the answer for your client/patient when all others fail.

Further dental health issues are presented and some of the leading dentists, doctors and scientists in the world in this area have their work presented in a very useful format. Visiting speakers also attend to give first hand information on the latest factual research. Much of this knowledge is not taught to Natural Therapists anywhere else in the world so this is obviously a program at the forefront of optimal health education. Subjects introduced and taught are involved with:-
      Amalgam/Mercury/Heavy metal toxicity
The Dangers of Root Canals and their ever present "low grade infections"
The development of the teeth/jaws in the child called Dental Orthopaedics
How to deal with bruxism or grinding teeth
How to use dental splints to improve and overcome TMJ problems in the adult as well as the developing child.

WE then review of all Basic work and finalise the examination.

    Module 3 N.O.T - 7 days - 60 hours

Each student will receive a Certificate of Competency for each workshop attendance after successful examination.

      You will learn the following:-
      • Day 1: The first day covers the "Emotional Clock Clearing" which deals with a very powerful and unique reprogramming via the fascia of the eyes "in relation to" emotional issues/trauma. This technique assists in completely clearing many emotional issues from the past as well as the compensating habits we develop to come. Gone forever! Phobias, fears, bad habits are all addressed in a simple manner which really works! You must learn these exciting techniques if you wish to stay ahead of the crowd. Stand out in front of all the rest in your clinical practise! Become known as the therapist "WHO FIXES THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM"!
      • Day 2: Introduces Extremities ie., knees, hips, ankles, shoulders, elbows and wrist. All those simple things like carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, tricky knees etc can be fixed! Learn how now.
      • Day 3: Learn to diagnose the challenge of SCOLIOSIS in a way hardly anyone in the medical profession can. Scoliosis, curvature of the spine, is a debilitation neurological manifestation which affects 4 out of 10 girls and 3 out of 10 boys at puberty. Learn how to identify, evaluate and correct the "condition" of Scoliosis.
      • Day 4 & Day 5: Explores the problems with:-
        Dyslexia
        ADD
        ADHD
        Specific Learning difficulties
        Stuttering
        Reading
        Writing
        Spelling
        Study
and how to find deficits and make major changes to the person's body and nervous system.
      • Day 6: Learn about the Endocrine / Hormonal System and how to balance it.
      • Day 7: Learn to evaluate and balance the Circulatory and Cardiac Back protocols:-
plus Kidney protocols are explored and taught.
We cover total clinical procedures, showing how to use N.O.T most effectively in the clinic. This is followed by a review of all Advanced Techniques and examination.

One’s goal in N.O.T is to receive a Diploma of Proficiency in N.O.T. To achieve this, a student must attend 3 X Module 2 and 3 x Module 3 N.O.T Workshops, taught by a Certified Neural Organization Therapy Instructor. The person then has to provide a 2000 words thesis on some aspect of N.O.T that they have personally researched, complete a 50 question test, and supply 10 case studies / histories and treatments using only N.O.T. This will also have a verbal and a personal hands-on evaluation for approx. 1 hr to determine competency in the use of the N.O.T protocols.

As your confidence with the PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND EMOTIONAL / MENTAL workings of the human body grows so will your confidence as an N.O.T. Practitioner. The more life experiences the better.
